Clubs for 8-15 year olds with additional needs

Saturday Clubs

Based at our large orchard plot at Rowditch Allotments in Derby, these groups give young people who struggle to take part in mainstream clubs a chance to relax, socialise and enjoy new activities in a supportive environment.

Enjoy outdoor sessions including looking after an allotment and growing food, art projects (including opportunities to have artworks displayed in the Royal Derby Hospital as part of our project in collaboration with Air Arts), making projects, cookery and outings to local parks for sports and exploration.

Groups are an hour and a half long and run in term time on Saturdays- please contact us for current session times as the number of sessions running depends on how many attendees we have each term. Maximum group size is 8 children per session.

Please see payment information below for details on using Short Breaks funding for these sessions and for staff:attendee ratios

Holiday Clubs

Based around the same principles as our Saturday clubs, these holiday clubs are for children who would like to spend time in a friendly group taking part in activities tailored to their interests and needs.

Running from 9.30-3.30 during the Easter and Summer holidays, these sessions can include outings to local places of interest including parks, museums, shops and libraries as well as making, arts, cooking and growing activities at our Rowditch Allotments base.

Maximum group size is 8 children per session.

Snacks and drinks will be provided- children will need to bring their own lunch.

Supervision ratios and session costs

As a non-profit company with social benefit as our core principle, we try to keep session costs to a minimum so that as many people as possible can benefit from attending. However, we do need to cover staff and overheads costs and believe in paying a fair wage.

Children in receipt of Short Breaks funding from Derby City Council can use funding either to bring a 1:1 carer to sessions and then pay a separate charge to cover the session costs, or can pay a reduced cost entirely from Short Breaks funding if the child's supervision need can be supported at 2:1 or 3:1, sharing the cost of the carer between children. In that case, Crow Wood CIC will provide the carer so there is no need to bring your own.

We are sorry but parents cannot be the supervising carer for sessions, as this leads to a very different group dynamic from one without parents. If your child needs a parent present, you could consider booking small group private sessions with us at an alternative time.

Please get in touch to discuss your child's needs, arrange a visit and decide which supervision model would be most appropriate for your child.

Saturday Club Pricing
  • £9 per session if bringing a 1:1 carer (this cost needs to be paid privately- Short Breaks funding cannot cover it).

  • £13.50 per session if sharing a carer with 1-2 other children with compatible needs- can be paid using Short Breaks funding from Derby City Council or privately if you do not receive Short Breaks funding.

After a free initial trial session, fees are payable half termly in advance. Places in the group are secured once fees are received in full.

Holiday Club Pricing
  • £30  per day if bringing a 1:1 carer (this cost needs to be paid privately- Short Breaks funding cannot cover it).

  • £45  per day if sharing a carer with 1-2 other children with compatible needs- can be paid using Short Breaks funding from Derby City Council or privately if you do not receive Short Breaks funding.

Fees are payable in advance, with places secured once the fees are received in full. If your child has not attended any of our Saturday sessions, please arrange a visit so we can meet each other and discuss your child's needs.

We do our best to minimise our session prices. Much of Crow Wood's overheads are covered by fundraising and grants, and we have volunteers working at all levels of the organisation. We are sorry that in order to be as fair as possible to all families, we are unable to offer sibling discounts.
