Growing, Creating, Learning - Outdoors

Welcome to our site!

Thanks for visiting!

The growing season has begun, volunteering sessions have started again, and our home education forest school, art sessions and 1:1 disability groups have restarted too.

We're continuing with our regular nature-linked recipes and activities blog, so you can see what we're up to, and get some inspiration!

We are also proud to have had recognition from the Royal Horticultural Society for our work in the community!

We'd love you to get in touch with comments, suggestions and ideas!

With love from

The Crow Wood CIC team

Allotment growing sessions

Our FREE sessions are running on Fridays 10am to midday, and Saturdays 10-12am for people living in Abbey Ward.

Come along and get involved with growing, making, crafting and more at our amazing orchard- complete with greenhouse and bad-weather tipi for socially distanced sessions (not to forget- with a toilet as well!) and our lovely vineyard and soft fruit plot.

If you're interested in coming along, please get in touch!

1:1 and small group horticultural therapy and outdoor crafts

These sessions have now resumed.

There is always plenty to do at our allotment site, and we can offer 1:1 and small group sessions!

Growing- observing- weaving- painting- making- building- relaxing- whatever your interests and needs, we can offer you a calm and friendly environment with an experienced session leader to guide you through practical tasks and develop improved mental wellbeing.

Please get in touch for more information, available times, pricing and to book your sessions!

Home education arts sessions

These sessions run on Friday afternoons in our orchard plot, and are a great chance for children over 10 to socialise, learn loads of new art and craft techniques (the photo shows pewter casting) and enjoy our amazing outdoor area- complete with social distancing-sized greenhouse for all weather sessions. Currently, our art and creative sessions are online.

In collaboration with Air Arts, our young people are exhibiting their work again this year, with the new exhibition, 'Unity', at the Royal Derby Hospital! You can also see their work on the virtual exhibition space.

Younger children, friendship groups and families can be accommodated by arrangement at other times- please contact us to arrange a convenient time.

If you're interested in coming along, please get in touch!

Our monthly volunteering sessions will be restarting in April, with some extra clearing and Spring-readying sessions over the Easter holidays to catch up on some of the activity we missed over the winter- keep an eye out for session times here.

Regular monthly sessions on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, 6pm-8pm will restart on 20th April: Everyone is welcome- under-16s please bring along your own responsible adult. During Covid restrictions, free booking for all sessions will be via Eventbrite so we can keep numbers safe.

And a huge thanks to everyone who has worked over the lockdown to clear rubbish, trim back brambles and foil antisocial behaviour- and thanks to PJC Tree and Garden for the fantastic job they've done tidying up the overgrown South hedge: The wildlife and local residents really appreciate it!

Nature-linked activities and recipes with our regular blog

We were blogging daily during the first lockdown, with activity and recipe ideas. The blog has grown considerably since then, so check out new ideas and news!

As the seasons turn, we offer recipe, activity and craft ideas based on what's growing right now in Derby allotments and gardens.

All our ideas are thoroughly tested, and most are suitable for doing with children and people with learning disabilities.

Take a look and see if you'd like to join in!

Big Grow Plant Events

Thanks to everyone who came along to our Big Grow events at Bramblebrook Community Centre, in collaboration with the National Lottery Community Fund and the local food bank.

We're really pleased that we've been able to develop the sessions into regular FREE growing groups for anyone living in Abbey Ward, Derby running 10am to midday on Fridays, and 10-12am on Saturdays at Rowditch Allotments.

National Lottery Community Fund digital
Crow Wood CIC gained National Lottery funding in 2020 to improve our site and hold events- including funding a new large greenhouse to allow groups to run all year, whatever the weather! Check our blog to see what we were able to create!
