Growing, Creating, Learning - Outdoors

Welcome to our site!

February - and wintry weather, plus a tiny bit of spring...

Our in-person activities are still not allowed, although we hope that the lockdown will lift soon. We're continuing with our regular nature-linked recipes and activities blog, so you can see what we're up to, and get some inspiration!

We are also proud to have had recognition from the Royal Horticultural Society for our work in the community!

We'd love you to get in touch with comments, suggestions and ideas!

With love from

Allotment growing sessions

February 2021 - our activities are still temporarily suspended, but do look at our blog for ideas to do at home.

Hopefully, our FREE sessions will be back running again soon, on Fridays 10am to midday, and Saturdays 10-12am for people living in Abbey Ward.

Then you'll be able to get involved with growing, making, crafting and more at our amazing orchard- complete with greenhouse and bad-weather tipi for socially distanced sessions (not to forget- with a toilet as well!) and our lovely vineyard and soft fruit plot.

If you're interested in coming along, please get in touch!

Home education arts sessions

These sessions normally run on Friday afternoons in our orchard plot, and are a great chance for children over 10 to socialise, learn loads of new art and craft techniques (the photo shows pewter casting) and enjoy our amazing outdoor area- complete with social distancing-sized greenhouse for all weather sessions. Currently, our art and creative sessions are online.

In collaboration with Air Arts, our young people are exhibiting their work again this year, with the new exhibition, 'Unity', at the Royal Derby Hospital! You can also see their work on the virtual exhibition space.

Younger children, friendship groups and families can be accommodated by arrangement at other times- please contact us to arrange a convenient time.

If you're interested in coming along, please get in touch!

Grangeover Open Space Group

Thanks to everyone who contributed to clearing a HUGE amount of rubbish from the play area site in December- the place is looking great and we're sure the wildlife will be relieved!

Unfortunately due to lockdown, we're unable to continue getting the site ready for human and animal visitors for the next couple of months: We're hoping to re-start for the March session but it may need to be later than that, depending on restrictions.

If you're living near the site (within walking distance- so anywhere in Abbey Ward or the West side of Derby) and would like to be involved once restrictions are eased, please come along or contact us. Everyone welcome!

1:1 and small group horticultural therapy and outdoor crafts

Our in-person sessions are still currently suspended, but we hope they will be resuming soon (possibly March, if the current restrictions ease).

Even though it's winter, there will still be plenty to do at our allotment site, and we will be able to offer 1:1 and small group socially distanced sessions!

Growing- observing- weaving- painting- making- building- relaxing- whatever your interests and needs, we can offer you a calm and friendly environment with an experienced session leader to guide you through practical tasks and develop improved mental wellbeing.

Please get in touch for more information, available times, pricing and to book your sessions!

Nature-linked activities and recipes with our regular blog

We were blogging daily during the first lockdown, with activity and recipe ideas. The blog has grown considerably since then, so check out new ideas and news!

As the seasons turn, we're able to offer recipe, activity and craft ideas based on what's growing right now in Derby allotments and gardens.

All our ideas are thoroughly tested and most are suitable for doing with children and people with learning disabilities.

Take a look and see if you'd like to join in!

Big Grow Plant Events

Thanks to everyone who came along to our Big Grow events at Bramblebrook Community Centre, in collaboration with the National Lottery Community Fund and the local food bank.

We're really pleased that we've been able to develop the sessions into regular FREE growing groups for anyone living in Abbey Ward, Derby running 10am to midday on Fridays, and 10-12am on Saturdays at Rowditch Allotments (currently suspended due to the lockdown, February 2021).

If you're interested in coming along, please get in touch! Currently, due to the new lockdown restrictions, our groups are strictly limited (January 2021).

Crow Wood CIC has gained National Lottery funding to improve our site and hold events- including funding a new large greenhouse to allow groups to run all year, whatever the weather! Check our blog to see how it's coming along!
