Growing, Creating, Learning - Outdoors

Welcome to our site!

Going into winter, and half-way through another lockdown,  our in-person activities are more limited, although certain groups are still allowed. We're continuing with our regular nature-linked recipes and activities blog, so you can see what we're up to, and get some inspiration!

We are also proud to have had recognition from the Royal Horticultural Society for our work in the community!

Take a look below for our current events and activities- or get in touch with comments, suggestions and ideas!

Allotment growing sessions

During the new lockdown arrangements (during November 2020), some of our sessions can continue, but our group sizes are strictly limited.

We have FREE sessions running on Fridays 10am to midday, and Saturdays 10-12am for people living in Abbey Ward.

Get involved with growing, making, crafting and more at our amazing orchard- complete with greenhouse and bad-weather tipi for socially distanced sessions (not to forget- with a toilet as well!) and our lovely vineyard and soft fruit plot.

If you're interested in coming along, please get in touch!

Home education arts sessions

Currently running on Friday afternoons in our orchard plot, these are a great chance for children over 10 to socialise, learn loads of new art and craft techniques (the photo shows pewter casting) and enjoy our amazing outdoor area- complete with social distancing-sized greenhouse for all weather sessions.

These sessions can continue during the current lockdown restrictions (November 2020), as they are core education for home educated children.

In collaboration with Air Arts, young people can even look forwards to exhibiting their work in the Royal Derby Hospital!

Younger children, friendship groups and families can be accommodated by arrangement at other times- please contact us to arrange a convenient time.

If you're interested in coming along, please get in touch!

Grangeover Open Space Group

Unfortunately, our volunteering sessions for this wonderful green space are temporarily suspended over the current lockdown period (November 2020), but we look forward to starting again as soon as we can - watch this space!

We've now got a group of local people who are planning to meet at least monthly to maintain and improve the site- starting with the "nature area" which is the larger part of the site, and continuing with the trickier "play area", which is going to need some more complex work to sort out a broken down playground and make a great area for the community.

We have a WhatsApp group to help with planning and communication.

If you're living near the site (within walking distance- so anywhere in Abbey Ward or the West side of Derby) and would like to be involved, please come along or contact us. Everyone welcome!

1:1 and small group horticultural therapy and outdoor crafts

With our allotment site looking suitably autumnal, we're able to offer 1:1 and small group socially distanced sessions!

Growing- observing- weaving- painting- making- building- relaxing- whatever your interests and needs, we can offer you a calm and friendly environment with an experienced session leader to guide you through practical tasks and develop improved mental wellbeing.

Please get in touch for more information, available times, pricing and to book your sessions!

Nature-linked activities and recipes with our regular blog

We were blogging daily during the first lockdown, with activity and recipe ideas. The blog has grown considerably since the, and as we enter a new lockdown period (November 2020), check out new ideas and news!

As the season turns, we're able to offer recipe, activity and craft ideas based on what's growing right now in Derby allotments and gardens.

All our ideas are thoroughly tested and most are suitable for doing with children and people with learning disabilities.

Take a look and see if you'd like to join in!

Big Grow Plant Events

Thanks to everyone who came along to our Big Grow events at Bramblebrook Community Centre, in collaboration with the National Lottery Community Fund and the local food bank.

We're really pleased that we've been able to develop the sessions into regular FREE growing groups for anyone living in Abbey Ward, Derby running 10am to midday on Fridays, and 10-12am on Saturdays at Rowditch Allotments.

If you're interested in coming along, please get in touch! Currently, due to the new lockdown restrictions, our groups are strictly limited (November 2020).

Crow Wood CIC has gained National Lottery funding to improve our site and hold events- including funding a new large greenhouse to allow groups to run all year, whatever the weather! Check our blog to see how it's coming along!
