Growing, Creating, Learning - Outdoors

Welcome to our site!

Thanks for visiting!

Whilst the wildlife of the allotment continue to forage on the remaining berries and seeds, we have moved some of our sessions to the warmth of the indoor studio (with woodburner!). The continuing wet weather makes outdoor work very hard going!

We're continuing with our regular activities blog which includes cooking ideas as well as crafts, so you can see what we're up to, and get some inspiration!

We are also proud to have had recognition from the Royal Horticultural Society for our work in the community!

We'd love you to get in touch with comments, suggestions and ideas!

With love from

The Crow Wood CIC team

Allotment growing sessions

Our FREE sessions are running on Fridays 10am to midday, for people living in Abbey Ward.

Come along and get involved with growing, making, crafting and more at our amazing orchard- complete with greenhouse and bad-weather tipi for socially distanced sessions (not to forget- with a toilet as well!) and our lovely vineyard and soft fruit plot.

If you're interested in coming along, please get in touch!

Home education arts sessions

Our groups met for the final time late last year, with people moving on to new things!

However, if you are interested in creative sessions, we might be able to help you, so please do get in touch!

Our monthly volunteering sessions are running, with regular monthly sessions on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. Everyone is welcome- under-16s please bring along your own responsible adult.

And a huge thanks to everyone who has worked over the lockdowns to clear rubbish, trim back brambles and foil antisocial behaviour- and thanks to PJC Tree and Garden for the fantastic job they've done tidying up the overgrown South hedge: The wildlife and local residents really appreciate it!

Nature-linked activities and recipes with our regular blog

We were blogging daily during the first lockdown, with activity and recipe ideas. The blog has grown considerably since then, so check out new ideas and news!

As the seasons turn, we offer recipe, activity and craft ideas based on what's growing right now in Derby allotments and gardens.

All our ideas are thoroughly tested, and most are suitable for doing with children and people with learning disabilities.

Take a look and see if you'd like to join in!

Big Grow and other events

Thanks to everyone who came along to our Big Grow events at Bramblebrook Community Centre, in collaboration with the National Lottery Community Fund and the local food bank.

We're really pleased that we've been able to develop the sessions into regular FREE growing groups for anyone living in Abbey Ward, Derby running 10am to midday on Fridays.

We also run craft and cooking sessions with Renew Cafe Stocky, at Boyer Street Community Rooms, on Tuesdays 4-6pm. Get in touch to see when we're next there! Free to join in, no booking required.

National Lottery Community Fund digital
Crow Wood CIC gained National Lottery funding in 2020 to improve our site and hold events- including funding a new large greenhouse to allow groups to run all year, whatever the weather! Check our blog to see what we were able to create!
